Thread: Should I?

  1. #11
Yes, I would go for the 2600 anyway, over the 2500, if both are almost the same price, the 2600 even being cheaper!
and yeah i know what ya mean by the snow! I live in NS too, and it's wild here. we have drifts in the middle of the road that are over my head, and i'm 6'1! it's really crazy out there, I'll be snowed in here for a long time, I live in the valley, so the plows don't even run regularly on a normal day, and now they've issued them to stop running. So i'm guessing the roads here won't be cleared before monday at least.
that is definatly the most snow i've seen come down in a matter of 24 hours!
and yeah go for the 2600
    cheers

Something is a bit off with those prices.

    Canadian prices here are:

    2500+ Barton --- $125.00
    2600+ Barton --- $139.00

Also if you want to mail-order... Check out: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...u=CP2-XP25003BC

Note: The mail-order product is OEM.

Wouldnt the 2500 be better then the 2600 though, because it is a barton core and has twice the L2 cache?

Yes the barton does and it would probably be a bit better but I just don't see myself needing anything better. Like I said,I could survive another year using my xp1900+ .I just want to upgrade for the sake of upgrading . I figure why not upgrade if I can,not so much upgrading because I need to .My current system runs flawlessly.I have had absolutely no problems with anything lately. I probably won't even overclock it that much.My 1900+ is only oc'd about 80 mhz, mind you the 1900 is not very oc friendly.

I still think that $130 is too much for the 2600+ Thoroughbred when the 2500+ Barton can be had for $90 after rebate.

Actually VB,there was a guy on a local forum here that I frequent and he was asking why those CPU's were so cheap on tigerdirect.com (or whatever it is) and after really looking into it he fopund out that they charge 30 bucks shipping to Nova Scotia,Newfoundland,New Brunswick,PEI, and even Quebec. And another thing, the coupon for the mail in rebate is only good until the 23rd of this month.

Here is a quote from their site about their "Free shipping"

"The shipment of orders to certain remote locations, with postal codes starting with the following: (A0A-A9Z, B0A-B9Z, C0A-C9Z, E0A-E9Z, G0B-G0L, G0T-G0W, G3L-G4Z, J0M-J0M, J9E-J9E, J9K-J9Z, T0A-T0B, T0E-T1X, T6W-T7W, T8P-T8Z, T9G-T9Z, V0A-V0L, V0N-V1L, V1N-V2V, V3G-V3G, V8A-V8K, V9G-V9Z, X0A - X9Z , Y0A - Y9Z), or items over 60lbs are excluded from this offer. In these instances, a shipping and handling fee will be visible using the shipping calculator and will be added to your order during the checkout process."

They for some reason consider Nova Scotia "Remote" , even quebec is considered remote. What a joke, their whole free shipping offer is a scam.

Well is the beginning of your postal code within that list?

I'm in Quebec and my code isn't listed there.

Consider that you don't get the rebate and you have to pay for shipping.

    That's 109 + shipping. So 139 right?

You said that it's 137 where you are? Sounds expensive considering you don't have to pay for shipping.

Local stores here sell the Retail boxed version for 125.

I would check around other stores in your area for a better price.

Does newegg.com ship there? Just a thought. Bought my new parts from there including the 2500 Barton retail $90USD free shipping.

These guys have the 2500+ for 117, that's the cheapest I've seen it in Canada myself. They're located in Ontario I believe
