Thread: Ram

  1. #1
board is 'quite' and by quite i mean very slow so i thought i wod break out some misc questions that iv been pondering over so here's one of them:

i have 2 sticks of RAM

    a 256mb of Samsung pc2100

and a Nayse (i think or something like that) stick of pc2700

is the samsung stick bringing the Nayse stick and my pc's overall speed down because of its slowness?

    Yuppers.

Remove the PC 2100 and let the PC2700 fly.

right now i cant afford another stick of PC2700 so should i just leave in the slower stick?
also its samsung so isnt it the better of the two sticks as in brand wise?

should i take out the slow stick and have 256mb's o RAM or have 512mb's o RAM but having one fast one being slowed down by one slow one?

I had one stick of Hynix PC2100 512mb DDR.I sold it and bought a stick of Kingston PC3200 256 mb DDR. My computer is only slightly slower now than it was.The only time I notice is while playing a game or something like that.I plan on buying another stick in the near future though. It will be a matching stick of Kingston ram also.

Take out the 2100. A machine only goes as fast as its slowest part, so if you put a 2100 stick in, the 2700 cant go any faster than 2100. Waste of memory, unless you desperatley need a huge amount.

since pc2100 ram runs at 266mhz and the front sidebus of your processor is 266mhz you wont be loosing any speed at all by using the pc2100 ram. unless you are going to overclock, i say leave the ram in.
