Thread: Does The Google Pop Up Blocker Have Spyware?

1. #1
I get pop ups all the time now and I have run adaware, and search and destroy. I can't find the source of it, so I may just use the google pop up blocker that stops most to all java script ads.

The ads I am getting medium box shaped ads for EBAY, and traditional letterbox pop ups that don't have any name on them when they show up in your task bar. I though they were from AIM, but I uninstalled that, and they still show up. They don't show up when I am not doing any thing but they will show up just when I launch IE.

So if i can't find out what is causing them, still listening to sugestions, can I install the google pop up blocker and not have a spywhare profiler program sending my every move back to google?

well one try spy bot S&D
and second yes google tool bar is ok if, IF you turn off page rank
it clearly gives you the option to turn it off, thats the "spy ware" in it
I don't use it, between myie2 and my firewall (zonealarm) I don't ever get any pop up's
ad aware is great but always misses a few just like spybot S&D will miss a few that ad aware catches
no doubt you have something, maybe even a trojan if all that fails do a scan with tds or similer trojan scanner
edit: didn't catch you already ran s&d
try updating the definitions and see if that helps

No google pop up blocker is completely safe. Its even researched what kind of information is sent when you enable Page Rank and was completely safe.
But if I were you I would disable Page Rank just in case.

Also, if you want to see if there is anything wrong, Get X-Cleaner
It has even found things that adaware and spybot couldnt find.

Exactly. You should always disable advanced features when it ask you if you want to during install or after install in the settings.

I use the following things and never get any popups or spyware or anything,

spybot 1.2 ( note you should not run spybot and adaware at the same time )
Code:
http://www.safer-networking.org/
spywareguard
Code:
http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html
spywareblaster
Code:
http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html
popup stopper companion
Code:
http://www.panicware.com/
and kazaa lite

and norton 2004 pro antivirus ( its got spyware detection as well )

if you run all these and make sure they are all updated, there should nothing that could spam you.

and go to add remove programs and remove things like mybar, newnet ect

oh and get rid of the google search bar, and any other bho ( browser help objects ) they all suck, if ya wanna search google just google

While we are on the subject of internet explorer and settings and such.

What should the setting be set at...

And does any one know how to turn off that clicking sound every time your browser directs its self somewhere new. Such as when you loginto a secure site it may click like five times and you just hit enter.

Thanks
