Thread: Lounge Memories

1. #1
I was looking for a post by Billy Dean, that I thought existed, but I could not find it so I found myself browsing through lots of old "world news" thread.

It was fun re-reading posts and replies I had forgotten. I found myself laughing and having a good time.

Here is my first meeting with Jpol, know as JMIF, then.

hobbes commenting on a post by clocker (prior to his bout of election blues):
He was poking fun at you. You heard it from some commentators, so he countered by saying that he saw it on tv. He mimicked your expression as well, "they seemed to know what they were talking about".

Understated humor, he didn't even throw in a smiley or wink, the bastard.

Jmif....With Clocker around, watch out for sarcasm.
Jpol responding:

I find it interesting that you see sarcasm in his reply to me, while failing to see the irony in my reply to him.
I was explaining "sarcasm" to Jpol who politely corrected me by indicating that it was "irony" and questioning why I couldn't appreciate his.

Ah, good times, J'pol I hardly knew ya. In fact, earlier in the same thread I had stated:

By late, I meant the forum, in general. Notice, I said this was discussed in another THREAD, not post. I was not attempting to patronize, but I just hadn't seen your name in this forum before.
It is fun to go back and watch us all get to know each other. The "irony" of coaching Jpol on irony.

What was a bit sad was all those names I had forgotten about. "Hey, I remember him!" Check all posts by that person, note that he/she is long gone.
Aren't we in the trust tree, thingey?

Ah yes hobbes, the good old days.

I have myself, upon occasion, rummaged through posts of yore, and am frequently pleased by the level of banter that we sometimes attain.

There are some true gems buried in the heap, still glittering as the day they were posted.

What ever happened to the "Best of" awards that were timorously proposed?

There have been some crazy days here.

Who remembers Zardoz?

In a class by himself; I still imagine him to have adjourned from the keyboard only to take his meds or attend his shrink.

Hobbes-do you remembere that "Meaning of life..." thread?

Met you there, I think.

Clocker and I (and others) discussing the Beatles.

J'Pol and I discovering we were (to our mutual amazement) allied, at some point.

Who was the guy who had a grand mal event and dislocated both shoulders?

Poor fellow needed a bit of a restoration, I think; he had a helluva reading list.

I remember Lamsey telling me, "Oh, you must be one of those patriotic Americans...", or some such.

myfiles3000, where are you?

Whatta place......

I wonder if/when we'll return to those days...?
On a given day or given circumstance, you think you have a limit.
And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit and you think "Ok, this is the limit".
As soon as you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further.
With your mind power, your determination, your instinct and the experience as well, you can fly very high.

I think we are still there, 4th.

We have ascended the ladder of tenure/seniority to the point of a different perspective, surely, but even given the massive growth in membership and demographic variety, the same things still happen.

Think about it.

When, in the lounge, did you last see a genuinely new thread?

We still have a core set, so-to-speak.

We're okay.

Still, it would be neat if some of the old crew dropped in, wouldn't it?

Who do you miss?

TClite, stoi and mobboss01 off the top of my head. Of course, Tc is my best friend in real life, but he never posts on here anymore.

There is too much bitchiness/flaming these days, in my opinion (though I'm as guilty as a lot of others of this)
