how do i change the brightness for avis and mpegs and stuff? atm theyre way too dark

usually in your player of choice there's some sort of colour control, just dig around the options/preferences until you find as slider labelled 'brightness'

I must be thick,I have tried musicmatch and JRiver media center and I can't find the brightness control on either of them.

just use windows media player to play your movies it has the brightness controls but if u really dont like windows media player try bsplayer i think it has brightness control, but i cant remember for sure.
