Thread: Sports Heros Or Over-hyped Idiots?

Soccer players deny rapes in Spain

    **The goal diggers

Apparently its nothing new: football players having group sex with a particular liking for gand bangs. But a growing number of (reported) incidents of gang rape by sports stars is throwing various sporting codes into turmoil.

Are sport "stars" given too much attention? Does being able to kick a football fulfill the requirments to be a role model for young men? Are sportsmen and women really "heros"? Are the young female groupies asking for it?

What are your thoughts, sports fans?

These people are over-worshipped, and their exploits over-reported, over-wrought and debauched.

    Role-models?

    Very very few are worthy.

Edit: Not speaking only of your footballers, either.

drug abuse. anabolic steroids in particular is one that seems to never go away.

although it isn't a "sport" as strictly defined, and very few of its stars come from sports backgrounds (more often they come from families that are already in the business), the real life side of pro wrestling can get pretty lurid and pathetic. stories like this one are surprisingly (or maybe not surprisingly?) common: http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional...?articleid=1926. death by drug overdose or suicide are standard, as well as steroid abuse of course.

    Very true.

My Mom used to work in a little store right in the same neighborhood as Vince McMahon's wrestling school, and she got to know quite a few of those we now know as "names" in the wrestling game, at least by sight, and many by name.

She said they reminded her mostly of little lost boys, especially once they'd been determined to have the "goods" and started on the managed steroid programs.

Many would just drop out of sight.

Just like to point out that the Leicester city Footballers are INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY!!

There has been alot of evidence to prove that the rpae case has been a set up, one of the girls is a vice madam and the girls are trying to sell the story to the highest bidder. The girls were flirting with the leicester players and dressed like slags. You cant believe them

Well...until the jury returns a verdict on my (hometown) footballers then I reserve judgement although whatever they did was clearly stupid. But then footballers have never been renown for their brains.

Oh...another footballer from Leicester has remained a scandal free role model for kids...Gary Lineker...Played for England for many years, truly talented and all round nice guy (even if he does steal Walkers crisps from his kids&#33

Shame there aren't more like him.

Yep, it's disgraceful but at least it generates some disgraceful jokes

Like - what's the difference between Manchester United & Leicester?
Leicester still have players in Europe

I got told that one by my own father (another Liverpool supporter naturally )
