that's a pretty old school hip-hop and R&B tradition. nowadays, it's turned into ridiculous feuds where everybody takes it too seriously, but that used to be how new people got fans to notice them-- by using a song to pick a fight with someone popular.

along the same lines, there's a group called Sporty Thieves that who've done a bunch of responses to songs where female stars are singing about how they're strong women who don't need any broke-ass loser men in their lives (no scrubs, independent woman, etc). their responses are pretty hit-or-miss though.
