There is not any detail about Microsoft Office in general that isn't bloated, IMO.

Actually Abi word has been around for a long time.

M$ Office and Openoffice are bloated.

• M$ office has miscellaneous office services start up on boot. For the most part they are to keep the startup times to a minimum for people that use office apps frequently.
  
• Openoffice has a quickstarter to reduce startup times as well.

A prime example of bloated.................Mozilla has a quickstarter to decrease startup times. Firefox does not. Because firefox is faster, and thus, not bloated.

Not everyone needs a full office suite just to write a simple document. Abiword is much more powerful than MS word, Openoffice Writer, and wordpad. In order for M$ word or Openoffice writer to be any better it would have to rely on other components in the office suite itself, which Abiword already has built into one application not a suite.
