Their arms are pointing at the sky
At the 8 ‘o clock news you see the earth burning
The newspaper starts to sting in your hands
But do you put that fire out with a sigh?
The picture of that dying child
Is yelling at us for 6 pages long
Our lips are forming ‘damn it’
But the curse is taken with the wind
Who knows what we have to do?
Do we talk or do we fight?
What’s the lesser harm here?
Or do we just send them some cash?
Their arms are pointing at the sky
At the border there is a long row of strangers
We call them uprooted; what a beautiful word
Millions of terrified people are fleeing
The sky is a red glow
Because of mortars and granates
No more houses, just streets
The earth is drenched with blood
Where are the houses and the school?
There where they taught history
But no one ever learnt...
The diseases are lingering in the gutter
Their arms are pointing at the skies
There they are with their clubs and swastikas
Standing ominous before the shelters
Scaring frightened wretches away
Their schools aren’t burned down?
They can jam the lessons in their heads
And the pictures of the jews and the camps
I thought something happened there once?
But stupidity doesn’t learn a lot
What is going on in those shaved heads?
And who knows how to stop them?
Is Hitler going to be an icon again?
Millions of people are fleeing
And can we still turn the tide?
My grandson will have to learn it from the books
And we...we are pointing at the sky
