 I am interested in mixing songs, from mp3s on my computer. Which program is good for this? Is their a program that splits up tracks(voice, drum, guitar, etc)?

Thankyou in advance for your help.

I use a program called Wavelab for enhancing the sound on some of my mp3's (live bootlegs and such), but there is no way you can split the tracks into drums, bass, guitars and so on...unless you have the original mastertrack... However, if you got the right filters and compressors you might be able to find the frequency for (i.e.) the vocals and turn down all other frequencies, but I'm not sure excactly what you need and how it's done...only thing I do know is that it's a hassle of dimentions.

My advice is you get Steinberg's Cubase and a guitar, then make your own songs...

    At to my knowledge
Splitting a mp3 to, lets say 4 diffrent tracks like
    -vocal
    -drums
    -bass
    -guitar

...is not possible. If you wonder why that is,
I suppose you could google about or I could try to make an example:

Think about if we made a cake and called it a mp3, about the ingredients, we could rename some:

    -vocal is the sugar
    -drum is the salt
    -bass is the eggs
    -guitar is the water
    - etc...

Now, try to figure out how to take those ingredients out from a freshly baked cake
    and you're getting the idea.

If im wrong about this, please correct me and point me to the source of
such an application as i would love to give it a try.

No, that winamp plugin that "rips the vocals" aint the deal, it has to be able to
rip the mp3 to original tracks what was used in the mastering process,
well, now when we're on the subject, I wouldnt mind if the app could extract the drum tracks to own tracks at the process too,
like, bassdrum to track 5, snare to track 6, etc...
And what about background vocals? Those nice harmony parts that was used in some songs,
would be nice to get them in their own tracks too...

    More seriously:
You might want to play around with Intelliscore "Intelliscore Polyphonic Mp3 And Wav To Midi Converter"
If you dont know what midi stands for, check this site.

Hope you find this post somewhat helpfull.
