does it actually show the shutdown screen then start back up or does it just randomly have the screen go blank and then the comp starts up again ???

cause they can be very different problems...

if its the first one then u may have a virus. if its the second then there could be lots of problems and u need to:
    right click my computer
    click properties
click advacned tab at the top
now click the third 'settings' button (settings for startup and recovery)
under system failure (in the middle) uncheck automatically restart

this will not fix the restarting, it will make it stop at a blue screen instead of just shutting off then coming back on. next time u get a blue screen write down any info you can find on the screen then post it or type it into google.

the blue screen of death is just a blue screen that comes up on computers, and whenever u see it that usually means ur session is fucked and youll have to restart...or it could mean there is an installation problem...or a hardware problem. thing is u never know...

anyway, in windows xp (and maybe 2000) you dont see the blue screen of death, the computer just completely restarts itself instead. but by doing what i said you will see the blue screen of death so that u can write down the error code and further diagnose the problem.(and dont worry teh blue screen of death (bsod) isnt really deadly so...)
