Why Are My Downloads So Slow (i'm A N00b)

I'm On Ntl Broadband, and I cant get speeds above 10 KB/ s
Iv checked everything on options etc
I have a mcafee firewall and scanner open at all time
I always download populer files with a good range of sourses
I'v Tried nearly every P2P even bit-torrerent

here are my specs

AMD Athlon™ XP 2400+
2.00 GHz
512 MB of ram
OS: XP Home
SP: 1
120 GB
used 15 GB

Good specs but we gotta kno 1 thing,waht client u gonna use? and since you have broadband then you should always configure each client to use your braodband to its benifit. If K-lite then go to start-programs-k-lite-configuration wizard and configure the connection.after that you should get better speeds B)

check this,
go to control panel\network connections\

make sure it isn't firewalled.
