If it is playable, in any way shape or form videoLan would be able to play it.

I tried changing the extension...but no luck. There is no need for VideoLan because even windows media player can play it. Any suggestions?

Looks like you never heard of Videolan (no offense).
If it would be the other way round,I'ld agree.
If wmp isn't playing a file, thats just because wmp sux balls.
But if videolan isn't playing a file, that's because it's corrupt.

Just open it up in videolan and see what it does

hmm...asspie

Actually i have "heard" of VideoLan, infact i have been using it for a very long time, but if even the most basic of all media players can play a file perfectly there is no need for any specialized programs like VideoLan. Windows Media Player, Real Player, BSPlayer, Avi Preview, and VideoLan Play this file, but it's not recoginzed as an .avi file, but instead a .dat file.

@Nanotek -> I burned the file onto a cd but there was no luck. The file was still in a .dat format and had to be opened manually. The dvd player did not pick it up because it is an avi movie with DVIX formatting and not mpeg2 or any other dvd compatible formats.

Any Suggestions?
