Today I procured a set of Zalman Theater6 surround sound headphones.
    Amazing.
They are very comfortable and even MP3s sound great.
The illusion of a real theater soundstage is quite convincing, the front/rear separation very realistic.

I'm not a gamer, but I imagine that they would excel in gameplaying.

    Highly recommended.

I guess I'm lucky...my Asus board does have the needed jacks ( and excellent onboard sound).

    Not really.
I like what I like regardless of the brand name.
In my experience Zalman does make very high quality equipment, you just have to focus on their intended design goals.

The parts that often break most are the brackets just above the actual phone housing. Zalman thought of this and designed the headphones in such a way that they fold up into a protective tortoise like shell. Even if you kicked these things in the dark they would likely resist damage.
Yeah, looks like you'd probably break your foot instead.

Comes with a 10ft cable, with 20ft extensions available. That's pretty impressive, but wouldn't bluetooth (does anyone have blue teeth?) have been a better alternative? The one thing I always hate about headphones is the trailing lead.
