Convert your hard drive to ntfs.

    select Start/Run and enter "Convert C: /FS:NTFS"

It will do some checks then tell you it can't do it straight away, and ask if you want to do it at the next restart - say yes, then reboot your machine.

Glad I could solve your HARDWARE problem.

What kind of "scanning" is XP doing at startup?

It is actually kazaa that deletes a corrupt download, which is what happens if you don't close kazaa correctly and you are using Fat32 file system.

NTFS has a journalised file system so you don't often get the same sort of corruption.

mine still deletes the file im downloading if I dont close kazaa right, and im using ntfs

usually I make a backup of something as i download it. so if i get to like 300mb, then I right click the file (usually caled downloadxxxxx) then i paste it into the folder so it makes a file called copy of downloadxxxxx. if my downlaod gets corrupt, i just rename that file and keep downloading.

    Hmmm?!
    This rings a bell eh?
same problem as me by the sound of it.
What do you think Muscleman? Virus? I've checked with Norton, adaware, and spybot. can't find anything but the problem persists!
Doing my head in now :
