Thread: Which Is Better Fan Or Heatsink

  1. #1
Well which is better for cooling // fan or heatsink //
    Just wondering.
    For videocard.

Since I have another computer that has only 1 heatsink its a msi geforcefx 5200 128M

Im thinking of putting a fan over it.
    Is there a way?

that's like comparing squares and circles...
which fan and which heatsink were you looking at??
    it depends
and also heatsinks will be literally silent but fans can usually remoove more heat
and with the fan, there is a heatsink under it anyway

    But smaller version than this.
So I traded with an msi heatsink instead... err feel kind of stupid now.
I traded it for a heatsink since the fan made horrible noise while booting up my computer it was vibrating through my computer thats why I wanted a heatsink instead.

Ohhh I almost forgot my videocard is next to 2 80MM fans blowing in the computer and on top of the video card is another 80MM for exhaust. Any difference does it make? Thats why I get a 18 - 35 average inside my computer.

with those fans around it, a heatsink would work well
I'd go with the heatsink rather then a heatsink fan combo

yeah, i agree with them then
did you have any heatsinks picked out? if not ask clocker about the Zalman chipset cooler, I ordered one for my northbridge, but he recently added on to his 9600XT
they are apparantly one of the better working chipset coolers and with no fan they are totally silent

Yeah those are nice, I wasn't talking about those though, I was just talking about the small chipset coolers, rather then the big heatpipes however the heatpipes are more efficient by far
If you've got the money go for either of those, if your limited on cash just get a small chipset cooler like this

    here

it has had many good reviews too (blower on the top makes it seem like the original flow-fx system tho )
use the blower whenever u feel like u need to kill ur friend in a benchie

otherwise keep it off: theres no need for it. also, setup mite get pretty tricky but still, i think its worth it (havent actually tried it tho... if i get a new card ([6/X]800, expect me to try it on the card to see if it performs :-)
