are there any firewalls running that may be blocking it from connecting to the server?

well just disable it just incase...and since ur running xp, try disabling the built in firewall (which is a pos anyway, so i doubt its blocking anything).

I would check symantec knowledge base. I had a problem like that and it involved uninstalling and making sure all files were deleted, I believe.

    try this

Norton... kinda sucks. Sorry you didn't know. There are always problems with Norton's software, especially updating it. Live Update can be a real pain in the ass.

You should get an anti-virus that works... and without killing your system.
    NOD32 is excellent.
AVG comes in both a great free edition and a pay version.
