just reinstalled windows xp home, and then installed msn messenger. Now allthough ive ticked all of the related options off in windows messenger preferances, i have no look. They both start when my pc does, and both try to connect me when i connect to the net. Grrr!!! dam annoying, how do i mix this so windows messenger does not load?

Which one you want? Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger?

If you want MSN Messenger...there's several options:

    1) Exit Windows Messenger from the Task Bar
    2) Type MSCONFIG in the run command...uncheck Windows Messenger, Restart!
    3) In your Program Files, find Messenger, open it, and click edit, select all, and then click file, and delete. Restart!
    4) Again...in program files, go to Messenger, right click on the folder, and delete it.
    5) Restart!
    6) Make sure and get rid of MSN addin for Windows Messenger in Add/Remove Programs, too.

Go to: PC Mag or Tech TV for some tips.

Note! You can't permently delete Windows Messenger! But you can keep it from functioning.

Windows will reload the folder Messenger and all contents...but will not load on start up.

If you want Windows Messenger: just go to Add/Remove Programs, and delete
    MSN Messenger.

    Yes you can.
    Copy/paste this:
    RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
into the Run dialogue box and click OK.

    Worked for me.

How about being pissed off at the stupid you have been logged out of messenger because you've logged on elsewhere message when you open OE, then having to log back in on MSNMessenger and see the same fucking message from WindowsMessenger?
