StyleXP works very well on our computers here.
It doesn't add anything to your system overheads when changing your desktop style because it does things the way WinXP has been designed to do it, so you don't have to worry about having another program using resources. You could use the same themes to do it yourself without StyleXP but the program makes it easier for novices/lazy people ().

StyleXP does work well, but it has to load into memory for it to work, and if you compare it to a system that doesn't use a program, but rather a patched UXTheme.dll file, you can notice the difference (you know, if you're picky ).
UXTheme multipatcher allows you to use themes not signed by M$.

Loaded into memory but not taking any cycles and only using 2MB of memory. That's little more than an eighth of the memory used by one of Symantec's Corp virus processes, a program lots of people receommend for it's low use of system resources.
On a 2GHz/256MB system, I'd be stunned if anyone could see a difference; on my son's Duron800 he tells me he's seen no performance drop.

Hey, I said only if you were picky.

BTW, Customize.org is one place I use to get themes, when I'm in the mood. Go to XP Visual Styles. The file type should be .msstyles.
