Ok, great theory, but then lets say I have 1 apple, and I don&#39;t divide it so 1. apple/0 ....surely I have still got 1 apple and not zero apples?

What you said is that anything divided by 0 is 0, which is blatantly untrue. Anything multiplied by 0 is 0, yes. The same does not apply for division
