@ Voetsek -- we are discussing "Dual-Layered" burners. I am in the U.S. the way... and 60 pounds UK is about $95 U.S. but that is for "Single-Layered" (guess)

@ muchspl2 -- $200 at Fry's Sony Dual Layered Drive. Here is a link to Fry's online store to see it. http://shop4.outpost.com/product/4052042

You think Sony are top of the line?

Most of their stuff is simply rebadged from other manufacturers.

I've got a Sony DW-10U, which is physically the same as a DRU-500A but for the OEM market. Sony won't even acknowledge it exists, so no firmware upgrades, no support. It's out of warranty now so it doesn't matter anymore.

Fortunately someone made a hack to convert the firmware to make it into a true DRU-500A, so at least I can do firmware upgrades. But no hardware fixes because the label says DW-10U

It's completely failed on me twice now, the only way to get it working again was to open it up and manually move the laser head.

I won't be buying another Sony PoS.

right sony sucks, its all marketing, and guess you guys have fell for it
and the nec burner I'm talking about is dual layer burner, in fact the 2500 has had hacked firm wear to give it DL support for over 6 weeks now, so IDK what your worried about
hell, http://www.herrie.org/index.php is all you need to know about firmware at least they had DL compatibility before anyone else (for nec)
but hey if buying a sony makes you sleep better at night then go for it, its your money (are your parent's )

p.s. the media you posted isn't 8x, mine was if you want slower media I can get you 100-pack Ritek DVD-Rs for around $60 even better if you want 2x

Ok... so what do I know about hardware?? Not much evidently!!! I just thought it was a good deal with a good name. I guess I can return it. By the way... my parents have nothing to do with my purchases ummmm if they did, then I suppose they could loan me some money to make mortgage payments.

I suppose I can return the Sony. It is unopened and I have the receipt and I purchased it only a few days ago.

As for the media... it is 4x, but for $.82 a piece.. does it really matter how fast it writes? I mean... I am not in a rush... and 4x is fairly fast. We are only looking at going up to 16 in the future max ... is that correct? Lemme know. Thanks.

So... should I look into either Lite On or Plextor then for my selection choice for DVD burner? I have had no problems with my PlexWriter CD burner... and I would not buy another CD burner. So, is this a wise choice for DVD burner as well?
