I am going to buy a DVD recorder for my PC. I was at Fry's Electronics and saw a Sony Dual Layered DVD burner... but they said they didnt have media for it. I was wondering if regular DVDRs would work in this... or do I need to wait for dual layered DVDRs?

Also.... I am guessing these are not double sided... just dual layered... so will they be coming out with double sided DVD discs at all? Will they be coming out with more layers on one side of a disc?

Last question is... am I just better off just getting a regular DVD burner?

    Thanks for the help

You will be able to burn both dual-layer and single when dual come out.

There is double-sided media out there you can use.

Dont think they will come out with double-dual-layer discs for a long time.

If you got the money for it, you might as well get it.

dual-layer +Rs are already out, and certified at 2.4x speed
wait til the DVD burners hit 16x speed. 12x is already out, so just wait til 16x is out and you are fine. 16x is the highest they can go w/o adding more lasers

uhhhhhh I dont really care about speed necessarily.... I am just concerned with storage capacity.

Also, I can get the dual layered media, but not at Fry's... but I am not concerned with it at this time... because it is probably too expensive and I can use the single layered discs until the dual layered prices drop.

So, anyways, the one I am looking at which I can get at Fry's Electronics here in California... and other states is the Sony DRU-700A which is 8x. Here is a review of it.

I'd jump on any good offer I'd for that. I have a Sony 510A and it works perfectly. Storage dont matter to much for videos as you can cut down the size with DVDShrink w/o too much loss in quality. Unless you would be getting this for file storage.

Fry's has the worst employees, and have read plenty of complaints of second hand merchandise (refurbished)
I'd stay away from them, I just got a nec 2510a for 92 bucks shipped from www.newegg.com
its dual layer and is fast, its what everyone has been waiting for

@ Singaboiy --- I am using this for both data storage... such as saving all my mp3s on disc to free up space on my hard drive... and also to burn movies. Would this one not be recommended? Did you take a look at the link in my earlier post?

@ muchspl2 --- I agree with you on Fry's employees... but I only buy things that dont have those labels on them where you can see they have been opened and returned. As for refurbished.... I do not think they sell refurbished, unless it is plainly marked so. These Sonys I am referring to are new ones, not refurbished. Do you still think I shouldn't go with this one?
