Motherboard Problem

Got a new mobo for a m8's oc im building, having problems with the front switches leads, you know the HHD LED POWER SW etc etc...


I have found the place where to put them and it looks like this: each square is one pin:



Now the following wires are these colours:

Power LED: Green + White
HDD LED: red + White
Power SW: Yellow + White
Reset SW: Blue + White

They are positioned here:

Now what i want to know is which way do i put them in, there are two wires one a colour and the other white so does it matter, if you get what i mean....

The orientation does not matter on the switch leads...either way will work.
For the LEDs just take a guess, if they don't light up then reverse them.

yes as clocker has said, plug them in whatever way you want. The switches, no matter what way you put them, will work. The LED's will either light up, or not light up. If they don't light up, switch it around.

also something i noticed about the LEDs, on my motherboard if they are plugged in backwards then they light up at the opposite time than they are supposed to...so the red one will lgiht when the hard drive isn't loading anything, and the green one comes on when the computer is off

Ross, you must have a very special motherboard.
How do you explain a LED that lights up in the absence of power?

You may be onto something big here.

I don't think it's the absence of power, i think that my motherboard, for some reason, reverses the charges when the LED goes off.

(btw, when i said that the LED goes on when computer is off, it turns off if i unplug the computer, or if i turn off the power supply form the back switch...so it does have power...)

Oh.

That's a weird way to build a board.
The three that I have owned (Biostar, Asus and now Abit) just won't light the LED if it is reversed.

The oddities of the Oriental mind, eh?

I've never noticed that effect with the HDD indicator, but it is quite common for the power LED. It allows you to have a two colour LED which is usually green when on and orange or red when in standby mode, edit: and off when there is no power at all.

@peerzyboy, look closely at the red and green coloured segments, you will probably find one pin on each has a + sign overprinted. If so, the coloured wire goes on this pin, the white is the ground. Try to keep the same orientation for all the connectors, it will make more sense next time you need to look at it.

hmm, that makes sense, maybe on day I will wire another LED to it and have it change colors HDD one too
