Thread: Which Lap Top Is Faster?

  1. #1
    The 1.3 Celeron M is $850
    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/con...=d505sapp&s=bsd

    The 2.2 Celeron is $719
    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/con...oc=i10001&s=bsd

    Which one is faster?

Price would suggest the 1.3 Cel M
Gigahertz would suggest the 2.2 celeron

How could the Cel M be nearly half the speed and yet be faster?

now that you ahve pointed that out bigdawg, it now makes sense.

centrino just means it has the wifi, pentium m chip, and an intel motherboard. all designed to run cool and fast and have long battery life.

go for the centrino, it is definately faster than a 2.2ghz celeron pos.

Yeah, but definitely get more than 128MB of RAM.

It does say it is a Celeron
    "Celeron® M Processor 1.30GHz with 14.1in XGA Display"

So the debate starts up again of the two celeron's (1.3M or 2.2 normal) which is faster.
I know celerons suck, but we are talking about a 7 or 8 hundred dollar lap top.

The prices jumps up a 100 bucks to 950 for a pentium M 1.4 ghz, but it is not about which one to get... if that was the question I would get this (Alien Ware).

    Thanks for any help.

I'd say go with the mobile one, if everything is right and that celeron still confuses me but a M procesessor has a L2 Cache of 1mb, wich enables a lower clock speed, witch allows for lower volts and better perfermce and especally longer battery life. So the M may have a lower speed in ghz, but with a faster l2 cache and lower volts i think its better.

And for a Mobile the Centrino processors are really worth their money. Cause finally mobiles batteries can last long enough to call them mobile.
Oh and the Centrino is faster, It's a totally different processor with a different cache memory. Because of the fact that naming the processors instead of numbering there's a lot of confusing going on. Therefor Intel decided to start show speeds with numbers, they kinda addept the methods that AMD always used. (Strange to see AMD is going the opposite dorection)

Don't know if you guys can buy these in the states, but i can recommend these. I'm replacing all the Compaq/HP and Dell laptops in our firm for Acer.
You get a lot more laptop for the same or less money and performance is equal (or imo even better)!

    i myself have a 8006LMi Image Resized

When you click "Help me choose" you see:
Based on an architecture designed specifically for mobile computing, the Intel® Celeron®  M Processor processor delivers a balanced level of mobile performance technology and exceptional value for notebook users.

I don't think Dell means to sell you a Centrino.
Make sure you get a Centrino when you want to use it without plugging in the wall-socket each time.

BTW, Jetje, your boobs are popping out!
