Thread: Cd Drive Doesnt Work

  1. #1
This morning my cd driver/cd rw was working well but when i tried to rip a dvd with super dvd ripper, it encountered a problem. Now when i put a cd, it will spin only once, with making a small stopping sound. It cannot read cds/dvds anymore

The cd rw driver is in a laptop.

Just off the top, try these apps....

These check for CD burner problems and the force will fix.

    aspichk.exe

    and

    Force ASPI.exe

Search google as the links I have no longer work.

    Hope this helps,
    Steve

    forceaspi18

If the check says everything is ok, then you dont need this.

However, if you do need the force make sure you use the dumpASPI to create a back up first!!

Did you run aspichk and did it say everything was fine??
Is the drive showing up in device manager?
If everyhthing is fine and the cd's dont spin, I would try downloading the latest drivers. If that still doesn't help, I would be looking into purchasing a new drive.
Let me know how it goes,
    Steve

    Usage and Instructions
Here is a brief description of what each script does.

    1. instASPI

Installs the latest, 4.71.2, Adaptec ASPI layer on Win9x, WinME, WinNT, Win2K and WinXP. Any existing ASPI Layers will be overwritten.

    2. dumpASPI

Creates a backup of your existing ASPI layer, or parts thereof. Some Win32 operating systems do not have an ASPI layer, in this situation you will create an empty backup.

    3. restASPI

Restores the ASPI layer backup created with 'dumpASPI'. WARNING! If your ASPI backp is empty this will completely erase your currently installed ASPI layer.

    4. killASPI

This will completely remove your currently installed ASPI layer.

    5. killDUMP

The deletes your dumped ASPI layer.

I would recommend that you use ForceASPI in the following way...

Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
    Reboot your PC
Run aspichk to see if everything worked OK
