My modem can't connect to remote server anymore. It's a 56k modem (Lucent/Agere SoftModem).Yesterday it worked perfectly, and now it says "Cannot connect to remote server ...".Now I have to use my other modem with which I get a horrible connection speed (36 kb and less )

What could be the problem, is it broken ?

here's the query log:

Questions:
1) Pulse dialing? - is that correct?
2) number #### - if you edited that yourself that's ok, but was it the correct number?

Also, look at the modem properties, try turning modem sound on if it is off.
Can you hear the dial tone? Do you hear the line ringing?
.
Political correctness is based on the principle that it's possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I think if you just reinstall modem drivers, and delete then recreate the dialup connection, your sure to fix the problem.

btw, where do you live that you still use pulse dialing

The phoneline is connected properly to the modem and the modem is also connected to the PC, otherwise the the system wouldn't recognize the modem (it's a PCI modem).

I will try to re-install the modem and make a new connection.

i would suggest this is just your service provider having problems , always the best option is to first ring them and ask if there is a fault mate ,
