im just about to defrag but i tried the update, didnt make a change
im not sure what to do with msconfig i just use it to stop certain apps starting on start up but am not sure what the rest is about
when i play a game i look at ctrl alt delete and the only thing with any processor power is the system idle process
how long with my 160 Gig hdd take to defrag on home XP?

No i dont have an update and i havent defaged my hard drive in about 8 weeks, i have no spyware or anything but usually quite a few background programs, slsk, BT, IE, F@H, MSN, DU, Daemon Tools.
system idle process is just the cpu time not being used...so 100%-x% that some other program is using make the system idle process percent.Originally posted by bilko@29 June 2004 - 10:39

for msconfig, what i meant is exactly what you are doing. Startup items.
depends how much fragmentation is on your drive. Probably take around 20 mins or more if you haven't done it in a while.
and i can't see the pic you posted...try uploading to photobucket.com
ok i'll have a go
i did the defrag, not change on the game front
i just hope doom 3 and half life 2 dont require walking through many doors
