    See http://www.matroska.org/ according to them Videolan ver 7 up should play it.

    Download for MKV - http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/...1-2-2-79.shtml

    Matroska is a cross-platform, patent-free, open-source media file format, which is even newer than
    OGM.
    Matroska is not a codec (like MPEG-1, XviD, DivX, or VP3), but a container (like OGM) where you can
    put video(s) + audio(s) + sub(s). Supported audio formats include Ogg Vorbis, AAC, MP3, and AC3.
    Fron another forum:
    Converting MKV to AVI

    Open the file in virtualdubMOD
    disable (and demux if you want) all unwanted text and audiostreams (you should leave the
    audiostream you want) in streams-->streams-list
    select 'direct stream copy' under video
    file--->save as--->save as type: avi

    thats about it
    this will only work with compatible video and audiostreams for avi of course; so NO windowsmedia
    audio/video (.wmv, .asf), ogg vorbis and the like
    you would have to re- or uncompress that with another program (GraphEdit) [ This message was

    Just got this myself but haven't got around to all this above.

    Edit:
    Its real but can only hear the sound in Videolan hmm anyways here the spec' from VideoLan :

    Video
    Codec = undf
    Res = 672x288

    Audio
    Codec = vorb

    Muxing App = libebml v0.7.0 + libmaltroska v0.7.0
    Writing App = mkvmerge v0.9.0 bulit may 31 4004
    Vobis comment
