A warning about "free" hosts with no ads:
I signed up for a free subdomain hosting on Freesites.ws, and at first I was very pleased with it. I used it mainly for testing out well-known PHP/MySQL scripts such as Wordpress and PHPFanbase, so that I can learn to install them. I didn't tell anyone the address, as there was nothing on there that would interest others.
But when I came back from my holiday, I found that my site had disappeared off the face of the earth. The main freesites.ws site was offline too. They had not sent any emails to warn about this. I never broke any rules either. I had no important files there, it was just the principle of what they have done that I don't like.
I'm just glad I didn't sign up for a paid account with them, incase they took the money and the site was offline for days on end.
If you have a personal site, I think it is probably best to pay for hosting and a domain at somewhere like Netrillium.com, Cyberpixels.com or Pinchpenny.org, because they won't suddenly delete your files without warning, unless you broke the rules. If you really want a free site, then it's probably best to just go with Geocities.

@Sparkle1984
Freesites.ws has been having problems lately. However, it has not been closed down as you may think. Freesites.ws was recently accquired by XNET Interactive LLC and the website is under redevelopment.
The server seems to be going online and offline lately, and it is a pain. My domain has been offline too. So has Energiserve, Freesites.ws, another domain (which I can't remember, but they all are related somehow.) I can't complain though because I'm not paying for my domain and the hosting is provided for free by Dominic and Energiserve.
