Thread: My Pc Is Driving Me Crazy!

  1. #1
    My computer is a "Pentium® 4 CPU 3.06GHz
    3.07 GHz
    512 MB of RAM"

I think thats supposed to be fast but i may be wrong (probably am). For some reason the computer takes a while turning on, turning off and doing anything while it is turned on. Has anybody got any tips at all or know of any software to speed it up.

    thnx

    Scan for spyware/adware and viruses.

Here is a good place to start.

I'd permantly remove things, instead of just using msconfig,
open regedit, go to software/miscrosoft/windows/windowsnt/current version

I'm thinking that is correct, at work and not in front of a computer I can access this from, but I'm pretty sures that close to it.

then there will be like Run, Run Once, and something else with Run in the name, forgotten exactly what, but you can just delete most of those keys and it stop coming on for good.

Also, I'd try take muchspl2's advise, and turn off many of the services, many are not needed.

The best thing you can do is reformat.

What you have done is good, but also go into add/remove programs and remove everything you dont need...try to clean it up a lot

    Yep.

I tend to format once every few 3-6 weeks. For space and security reasons.

What kind of extra space and security does formating provide?

thats bullshit to reformat every month
fuck that noise, I go for a year or more
just need to understand how to keep your pc optimized and running smooth without the having to reformat
hell I go longer without turning off my computer
