Thread: So Where Are The Greener Pastures?

  1. #1
So where is everyone going? This will be my 4th p2p site and things seem to be getting worse and worse with each generation, but it's not like they had anyplace but down to go after Napster. Tried Ares and was not impressed and Kazaa is only good for vids anymore, and unfortunately that is not what I am looking for. I also tried those bad range blockers, but it became a pain in the ass keeping up with them and I don't like to put a lot of BS on my comp just to fight through all the corrupt files.

I want something with a decent sized community that has not been fukced over by corrupt files, and I have had my fill of using the "Dope" method (dl and hope) on Kazaa Lite. So have pity on on fellow p2p'er and list some nice communities, and don't suggest BS sites like Bearware plz

    Bitorrent, e-mule, soulseek, DC++ etc.

    All better than kazaa.

Haven't you heard, kazaa sucks, and has for quite some time.

Well you could always download mIRC and go that direction. IRC downloading has been here since before any of these other programs and that is why it still remains the best place to get files when they first hit the internet.

    Newsgroups,
The first place where ppl was getting stuff.
The place where the Internjet started.
Its a leechers paradise also, no uploading required,
in fact, one has to be pretty good on the KnowHow before
    posting warez in there.
And, it is more secure also.
Binary files are converted to Text files, then encrypted, then
posted to newsgroups for ppl to DL.
Since the way it works, you dont have to upload.
Some countrys ,like Norway, downloading is legal, but when you upload you
might get into trouble. Thats illegal. (well, atleast to my knowing)

Im just saying this as it wasnt mentioned, and no, i dont use them.
One needs a service for that and i dont have that, yet.
But i will try that someday.

It can be somewhat slow to get stuff but in my opinion,
its worth a shot. Also, there is a Learning Curve just like in most
apps, it aint easy to use as Kazaa.

IRC is something I will have a closer look later on too.
I got my first apps from IRC/FTP's years a go.
But IRC can be somewhat time-consuming to learn.
Atleast it was some years back.
Nowadays there's tons of good guides all over the Net.

But if you really want to get Good Stuff and Fast,
you will have to do a lot of reading/learning, regardless what App. you use.
Even with KazaaLite its possible to avoid viris and fake files, atleast to some
extend, its all about How you use it, and that goes on any App.

You gotta have a little "nerd" in you.
    If you want to learn,
check the pinneds in our forums
and some other forums as well.

If im wrong about this, lets hear the Corrections.

    Spoiler: Show

I have started using the free version of Bearshare - it seems quite good- is there anything bad about it that is not immediately obvious?

I use BearShare betas -- mostly to just plink around with. They don't have the adware BearShare free has (although that's easily removable) and they're the most up-to-date versions of BearShare.

I have considerable difficulty getting anime tv shows, regular (sci-fi) tv shows, and movies off it -- but MP3s are no problem to find at all.

Once again, it pays to keep a good ip blocklist loaded into whatever p2p filesharing program you use, because the badguys have ALREADY infected Gnutella, BitTorrent (suprnova especially), and E-mule -- both with their massed fakes and spies which try to monitor what you're doing.

This shows how the Gnutella network is doing overall:

And this shows the BearShare portion:

You're wrong there. I've never, ever got a fake file off Suprnova and I'd be extremely suprised if you could point at even one right now. I don't know why you'd highlight Suprnova like that

Emule has it's share of fakes but nowhere near the proprtion evident on the fast-track network, as for Gnutella ... err who cares?
I plan on beating him to death with his kids. I'll use them as a bludgeon on his face. -
