Most chpis will have a safe protect feature that it will shut itself down at a certain temp. This temp can vary anywhere between 65C and 85C depending on the chip

I would say stay under 60°C to be safe. If you can set an automatic shutdown with your motherboard then set it to shutdown at 65 or 70°C.

The question should be what temp it should hold when running.

T-birds and some xp's burn at 95c, some xp's at 85c, if I remember correctly.

But exact figures doesn't matter as you don't what it hit temps anywhere near that high.

If yours ran at 50c idle, I'd say that was a little bit hot.

My XP 2600+ runs at 52 or 51 idling.. I thought that was normal? I'm not a big OC'er nor do I spend any money on cooling except that I have 4 case fans..

I prefer to have mine run idle at least a bit below 50c, preferably below 40c. And around 50c at the very most under full load.

The ideal would be to have it run close to room temperature, but that requires a lot. At any rate, if it isn't OC'd 50c is definitely a bit high, but not a cause to worry (and probably quite normal).


What I want is to have it run no more than 5 degrees higher than my mobo, this is a personal preference tho'.

that only with Intel&#39;s........... AMD doesnt have that feature

most decent motherboards, yes...... if you have an AMD, that your only protection

right now i dont have my 2600+ OCed (will be doing so soon though )
it runs (load) @ 46 C

if yours runs idle @ 52, dont worry....... just watch the temps closely under full load...... an make sure you have the shutdown temps set

I thought the A64&#39;s did the thermal shutdown thing at 70c.
