    Tip 1: UnPack PK4 Files

Go to your Doom 3 installation directoy, then to the folder "Base". There are some .PK4 files there. You have to open each of them with WinRAR and extract their entire contents to the Base directory. You should get duplicates, overwright them. Then delete the old .PK4 files, bettter yet Cut them and paste them somewhere else incase theres problems. BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP.

    Tip 2: doom.config

In the Base directory, open doom.config in notepad.

Look for the following pieces and change the numbers to the ones i have shown. If you have alot of ram.

    seta image_useCache "1"
    seta image_cacheMegs "256"
    seta image_cacheMinK "20480"

I'm truly sorry If this is a repost on old news.

Extracting the PK4 files took like 5gigs up and made my FPS worse. Tip 2 is a good tip though.

I'd only use 384 if you have 768MB ram, Try half your current ram number first.
I wasn't going to buy it in the first place, so me downloading it for free isn't losing them any money.

Upping the cache seems to be working great (512 I think it's set to now, out of 1.5 gigs of ram on that 'puter), which is odd, 'cos elsewhere someone said it should be set to a quarter of one's gfx mem.

Not even trying the other one, it seems a frightful waste of space for dubious gain.

Unpacking the .pk4s should only affect loading times shouldn't it?
I don't know why FPS would be.

I heard something about Doom 3 accessing these compressed files whilst playing, taking up resources to decompress the data on the fly...I guess if they are unpacked it means the CPU time can be put to better use.

On slower PC's when opening doors the game slows down alot and it waits 5--6 seconds to open a door this is becuase its un packing all the textures etc etc etc.
