My interweb machine’s been playing up to no end lately, should I reinstall windows and start over? I’d loose all 30GB of me telly progs (which I can’t watch due to the silly computer)

Couldnt you transfer the files to that though before you reinstall and then just swap them back??

I don't have any networking gear and the other machines not connected

It’s only recently that it’s started this nonsense (except for the burner which hasn’t worked in a while). The Bios got a password set on it and to get passed it I switched a Jumper round but when I started the PC up again, I got the StyleXP sign come up saying that it couldn't operate due to the system clock being put back, I put it forward but still no luck. The whole machine has slowed down considerably and videos now stutter.

I only really ever post, download and watch things. But If I can’t watch things then it’s a bit pointless

Sounds like a plan Jackie Chan

Think I'll do all the routine stuff first, disk cleanups, reinstall progs ect, see how it goes

Arcadia, some of your Windows drivers/dll files may be corrupted or missing.

If you insert an XP disk and choose Repair Install it may solve your problems, at least temporarily. Also don't worry about SP2 but make sure you have installed SP1.

Clean out your registry too with a tool like Regcleaner.

There are other things as well, but try the easy stuff first

btw, Rossco will probably be along later and will be able to tell you exactly what's wrong with your axradeondjiboutiXPchip
