You might want use nLite to make a special XP cd.
It can reduce the size a lot plus tons of other stuff.

    Chlick here

I cant remeber whats the default size of XP install is.
But I guess it was under 1GB, maybe even under 700MB

    Might be around/over 2GB.

I forgot the effect of the Page File.

That is probably allocated by percentage of the size of Hard Disk.

    Yeah, spot on.

1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*

    * Actual requirements will vary based on your system configuration and the applications and features you choose to install. Additional available hard-disk space may be required if you are installing over a network.

i had allready looked at that, but have you ever seen requirements that were acurate? (microsoft is especially good at that no way a standard XP install will work on 64 MiB RAM!!!! 128 maybe, but dont try doing to much at a time)

I make my windows partition ~10GB, so I can have windows and most of my programs on that partition. I don't see the point in keeping other programs on the non-boot partition as they most likely won't work on a new install (new registry) anyway. But then, I can afford the 10GB as it's only a small amount of my overall drive space
