Thread: Can't Delete A program

  1. #1
I recently downloaded some video and audio drivers for a friend.I saved them on my desktop and burned them to a cd for him.But i can't delete one of the programs it keeps telling me that's it's being used by another program. What's a good piece of software to remove this?I tried Magic Utilities And it worked on one of them but the other one won't go.

I would try for some Anti Virus app first.

Arent you even a little bit curious why exactly it is on use?

Reboting to Safe Mode and deleting from there might work,
since it is about Drivers and them drivers dont get loaded to Safe Mode,
    at least not all.

It could be deleted via DOS perhaps, if there'sa version out there that reads/writes NTSF.

The first thing you should attempt to do is to simply "reboot your system". This will end what ever process it is that is using those files and hopefully enable it so that you may delete those files alright. If that will not do the trick, then you need to isolate precisely which process it is that is utilizing the file(s) and go from there.

Well, whats the exact file name?

You could google that file name, maybe find some info if anyone else
    had similar problems.

Btw, I think the reboot as a first choise is kinda scary if there is a
program file a cannot delete. It could be infected with *ware.

Also, I can think of windows file-protection causing this too.
But why windows needs to protect it then?

And we have to remember that hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del ie.
Windows Task Manager dont show you all the running apps.
Many Viri can hide that way.

There's freeware apps available on the Net, process viewer or somesuch.

Ok, you could DL a Process Explorer:
    http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/fr.../procexp.shtml

I think there also a Process Kill program in there, if the Process Explorer
    allready have that option.

Then you could see if the 68usr108.exe is really running, and kill the it,
    and then delete it.
