Apple iTunes installing trouble

Hi..
downloaded and tried to install iTunes 4.7 and get this horrible error



Have redownloaded the installer numerous times which only proved a point, that the problem is at my end...lol

anyone have any suggestions please??

do you have the latest patches from windowsupdate.microsoft.com installed?

Good question...and a valid one as I tend to avoid any help from Microsoft(Updates, etc)
