i dled mohaa, and i can play 1.0 online no problem.
if i download and install the 1.11 patch, will i still be able to play online?, or will it check for a valid cd key?

yes but then he won't be able to connect to 1.1 servers which most people will start hosting, so you'll be left with only a handful.
life's a gamble, so take one.
if it fucks up, then you can always reinstall using the same settings as before.
