It was invented in 1916 by George Jung, a LA noodlemaker. I only heard this one, so it's a guess. :-"

Wrong! They originated right here in San Francisco.
Fortune cookies are widely believed to be the invention of Makota Hagiwara, manager of Golden Gate Park's Japanese Tea Garden in 1909
