Looking for loopholes
I agree, the second would be more effective. A hammer would stun after the first few blows.
Lying in the debris of one's own shattered limbs whilst someone toys with a hammer (perhaps gently tapping a broken bone or two) would be worse.
Tis just my opinion though -
On the other hand as it is Christmas you could forgive and forget.

I can get his fingernails ripped out one by one, for just £50.
Don't know anyone who is willing to slash his scrotum, and pour vinegar in it though.
Other suggestions welcome, as long as they are gory and painful.

Well you could nail his tackle to the floor and then set fire to the floor - but leave a small hacksaw within reach.
Not very Christmassy though - have you considered introducing holly into the equation.
