I preffer my mp3s to be very high quality but not over-board so usualy 192-224 kbps, but what do you guys preffer? I am planning on ripping a lot of high-quality mp3s from several albums which I own.

glancing at this (however I may be wrong) but this only tells me what I already know? I am aware how to rip mp3s from a CD and I am aware about the other things mentioned too (such as the variable bi-rate) I was merely asking for a most preffered birate from the people who would download. I myself have forked out for a sound-system reaching easily over £1000 (however I know someone who spent that much on just one speaker and its wow&#33. Anyway, my point being, I can easily notice a difference between 128 to 192 and 192 to 224, however all I ask is what the general view is (because size matters, you all know that)

192kbps is the standard that professional rippers use. I certainly wouldn't go any less than 192kbps. Anything larger, and people might start looking for smaller file sizes. However if the files are very rare, or come from bootlegs, then use the highest bitrate possible.

I'd advise you to rip at least 192kbps,its what i rip at most of the time and keeps file sizes quite small too.

All the albums I get are 192, that's fine.

Use Ogg Vorbis, the file sizes are smaller for the same audio quality.

For example: an ogg vorbis file that is the same size as a 192kbit mp3 will have approximately the same level of quality as an mp3 file with a bitrate of 320kbit.

Unfortunately, kazaa does not support convenient searching for ogg vorbis files. When searching for ogg files with kazaa, you have no way of selecting a bitrate or level or quality.

Here are a few links if you're interested.
