Thread: how do you setup a filesharing home network between 2 computers with win XP ?

    I've reach to share an internet connection , but failed to be able to read files on my brother's computer

    run the network setup wizard on both computers. make them be on the same workgroup, but the have to have a different ceomputer name.
    Now right click any folder and go to sharing, then enable sharing of that folder and type a name for it.
    you can also share whole drives.

    Ok, and then how do you read the files from the other computer?

    click "my network places."

    You can get to that through your desktop if the icon is there, or through the start menu.
    OR by going to my computer or whatever then clicking my network places on the left side.

    I just get "printers and faxes" and "scheduled tasks" icons nothing more.

    are you sharing any files/folders ?

    right click / properties / sharing(tab) and click share this folder on the network.

    then try again.
