    Is there some kind of trick to posting them?

    The forum seems to insert a rogue space like the one that appears near the end of this ed2k link or, if it's a clickable link, the space may appear in the clickable text.
    No amount of editing will remove the space either; once the submit button is hit, it's back.

    Obviously, if an unwanted space gets inserted in an ed2k link, it'll return this error:

    Am I right in guessing this is caused by ed2k links with lengthy filenames that are exceeding a max character count imposed by the forum?

    If so...
    1. What is the max amount of characters allowed before a space is inserted by the board?
    or
    2. Is there a way to abbreviate an ed2k link without breaking it?

    well i was getting them too, until someone told me the trick. use the http button but change it to the ed2k url. works for me. someone also said that they only work in verified sections but haven't bothered looking.

    the end result should be as below, with no line breaks (the * is a r)

    [u*l=
    your ed2k link
    ]
    filename
    [/url]

    @ Samurai & AndrewBarker: That's exactly how I was doing it already, guys. That blimmin' space just kept inserting itself.

    @ {I}{K}{E}: Right, I get it. The trick is to put the ed2k hash in quotes.
    [uxl="ed2k hash"]Filename[/url].

    Well... I nearly had it right...
    Thanks!

    But what about ed2k links that aren't clickable like the one I linked to in my first post?
    Lots of members just paste the hash without making them clickable...

    Works for me doing the method I described above without the fancy ' marks in the tags...

    Yeah, but your example has a very short filename.
    Some ed2k links have really long filenames, have the spaces removed, and use underscores or full stops instead.
    Thats when 'rogue spacing' can cause problems.

    I see what you mean. This link is FUBAR.

    Let me try with IKE's suggestion...

    The 4400 S01E02

    Seems it works. I never knew that. What does putting it in quotes do?

    Well, putting link urls in quotes when coding HTML tells web browsers not to mess with the format of what's between the quotes.

    I guess this is the same sort of thing, but with bbcode.
