    My Gran's faves are;

    Come in if your feet are clean.
    You'll catch your death of cold.
    The gypsies will take you away.
    Mind the way you go.
    Nice girls don't climb trees.
    Theres more meat on a carrot.
    Scone at any door.
    You're not too old to go over my knee.

    Someone in the pub called me a scone at any door, and it instantly reminded me of her.

    What words of wisdom and silly sayings did your elders pass on to you?

    I guess the one I remember most was my grandpa saying, "think it through". I was always getting into trouble when I was younger so he would always tell me, "next time, think it through".

    My Gramma used to tell me that if I didn't behave she'd make me smile on the other side of my face. My Dad said it to me a lot too.

    I never knew what it meant when I was little, it sounded fun, but now I know that they meant that if I didn't stfu, they would hit me so hard that my mouth would come out of the back of my head
    I plan on beating him to death with his kids. I'll use them as a bludgeon on his face. -

    --Good for them if they survive.

    Whenever someone shook hands with her, she'd always say "First time I've had my hand in shit, today"

    My surviving granny uses a few untranslatable colloquialisms, but her most distinguishable trait is her propensity for spontanteous and poorly timed annectdotes, many are the times she has told me about what someone I don't know did ten years ago.

    If possible all the younger members in my family give her a wide give berth at family gatherings because of this.

    She's nice and all, but I don't think she has been living much in the present for many years now.
