I just open nero express, click on data disc, drag the file into the white space and burn

I dunno allot about DVD players and the support of divx/xvid...

maybe the file you burned has a newer codec version then installed on his DVD player

For my dvd players, you can't burn them as data disks. Use the 1 step KVCD tutorial in the tutorials board for a method that only takes like 2 hours, you don't have to be at the computer, and should work very well.

    Good luck!

Sounds like your DVD player supports .avi (Divx/Xvid) files, but your friends DVD doesn't. Because if your burning it as data, then its just that, an .avi file on a CD. Its not really a DVD, but your DVD player can play them, while most can't.

What DVD player do you have?

but I'v given him other movies but they seem to work fine. maybe its the CD's since the other movies were on Verbatim CDR and now I use Philips.
