Thread: BIOS Errors..........aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  1. #1
6mth old PC...no problems at all with it up until now!!
Now i may be clutching at straws but it was ok until i got hit with loads of AdWare and did a full Virus scan with Norton......then when i rebooted i got the error messages saying various operations could not be started and that my Virtual Memory was very Low....everything slowed down to a crawl..and i mean a crawl!

I looked in my Windows error log and got this -
ACPI - ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal PCI operation region.
(0x4) Please contact vendor blah blah blah.....

If i press F5 on startup and choose 'last known config that worked'..no problems arise and Windows starts up fine.

Is this a failing BIOS or is it maybe a Virus??? Even though Norton only picked up Adware??

PS..I have noticed these ACPI/BIOS errors in my error log since start of Jan. but only now i have had this problem with Virtual Memory...totally baffled...please help!!!

Windows XP Pro (Service Pack 2)
    Athlon XP 2800+
    512 MB DDR
    80 GIG Maxtor HDD
    Radeon 9800 PRO

If the 'last known config that worked' makes Windows start correctly then there isn't anything wrong with the BIOS.

The BIOS is firmware and your problem is software (Windows) related.

it must have just been a corrupted file or driver if it works fine now (most liekly caused by the viruses or spyware).
nothing to worry about unless it starts to come back again.
