Thread: Need some help fast

  1. #1
I got this mp3 player that is messed up. Someone dropped it and a few of the buttons are inside of it and it wont power on. I think its cause the battery is dead though. But it wont turn on like it used to when plugged into the pc.

But anyways, I got a screw that is stripped badly. I need a way to get it out. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I don't know what do you mean by "striped", is that like when you damage the surface of the screw trying to open it with something else than a screwdriver?
Anyways, when I studied electronic circuits, I use some very unconventional methods (that acording to the theacher), I sometimes used W-40, or hit the screw on the top (very little) but you might want to avoid that, being such a delica device. Or may be you can use a tool (don't know english name), grab softly the screw by the head and move it arround just a little.
Sorry, not much help I guess, but its all I have for now.

Drill it out. Or tap it out, using a tap & die set.

The parts that the screwdriver makes contact to is stripped. Someone grinded it down.

The only thing I can think of without damaging the hd in it is to fill the stripped part of the screw with some bondo or something, put the tip of a screwdriver in it before it sets and unscrew it after it sets.

I dont have any bondo though

Yea, now I know what you mean!
    And the bondo might work.

Does bondo bond to metal? How about some JB weld. At any auto parts store, stuff fn rocks.

Sometimes you can grab and turn the head of the screw with small longnose Visegrip or even wire cutters.
