My friend's dad died last week. I've said the usual "if there is ANYTHING I do do to help......." but I know that when people hear that phrase whilst they are experiencing trauma they tend not to contact people for help.

It's the funeral today and I just want to do something nice for her (and her boyfriend who has been helping her to sort out the funeral arrangements)

    Any suggestions???????

She will need time to work through her grief. So time may be the best thing you can give her. Some people like to be left alone others to throw themselves into things to avoid dealing with their thoughts. You will prob know which of these types your friend is. Off the top of my head it might be nice if you took her away for the day or suchlike, just to get away from everything ..and everybody... for a bit or if she has kids perhaps offer to babysit allowing her and her boyfriend some time to get away.

I hope today goes as well as it can for all those involved.

Taking her away for the day sounds like the best idea to me.
I can imagine that she just wants to spend a day not talking and thinking about what just happened.
Go do something really active. Something physically challenging...

That's what a friend did for me when my dad died and it helped me more than all the concerned 'how are you's' and 'if I can do somethings' together

Just be there for her. Tell her again that you are there for whatever she needs.

I tend to cook for people in these kind of situations......

Sometimes to eat it together, in other cases i just deliver a fresh meal to microwave....

    And what VB said.

    Thank you

I've decided to take most of your ideas and blend them together

I'm gonna text her tonight after the wake is over (VB)

then in a couple of days I'll cook for them (Yogi & Sparsley)

then when she's feeling up to I'm gonna take her out (ZC & Skw1)

soz DI couldn't seem to fit that in anywhere

I just hope I can shine a bit of sunshine...
