Thread: How to upgrade

  1. #1
I have a fairly decent computer and i wish to upgrade it. Now how do i do this and how do i know what parts to get and whether it will fit and work in the machine. I am in the uk and hoping the budget wont be that expensive. I want to upgrade the ram, graphics card and maybe processor although i got 3.06 fsb 533.

Also whats the difference between graphics cards where one has 128MB and another has 256MB

    Cheers

Give us your specs, a budget for each upgrade part and we'll susgest the best options. 256mb cards only have advantages over the 128mb version if you go all out and buy the best cards. A 256mb version of a FX5200 is worthless as the ram would never be used.

    We need:
    CPU
    RAM
    GFX Card
    HDD
    OS
    Motherboard
Budget for each part or an overall budget

Two cpu's? probably hyperthreading ? But seems like a nice system to me too.

Yeah thats hyperthreading, i get it as well. Totally normal.

I personally would susgest getting 6600GT (£130) and 1Gb of Ram, either getting an extra stick of 512mb Ram (£40-£70) or what i would reccomend is buy a brand new duel channel PC4000 1gb of ram (£100 give or take). Ofcourse it all depends on how fast your current ram is.

So with about £200-£250 that would upgrade your system alot and give it the extra needed gaming power. Also while upgrading do a fresh format and install of Windows because alot of slow down can be because of Windows being clogged up with shyte files, spyware, adware and other nasties.

Are you really into gaming? If not then a high end graphics card is overkill.
