Is My Mobo Linux Friendly?

OK, so here is my conondrum. Recently, I installed SuSE 9.1 on my system. Works like a charm, flows marvelously, and I've only hit one little hitch. See, I have Cable internet access, I've got a hub and a router, and all that jazz, and usually, when I reformat Windows, after I instal my Mobo drivers, Windows picks up on the fact that I have my internet plugged in and says here you go. Now, YaST did all this looking for me, and it says that I have a internet ready port, but it won't work. Now, I haave heard tales of Linux not taking to modems and such that are designed by/for MS. I have an Asus A7N266-VM mobo. It works, in the sense that my headphones, which are plugged into it, let me hear sound. So I ask, why does only my internet not work? Do I need to install the drivers in SuSE? My USB 2.0 PCI card works in Linux without me using the drivers for it. This befuddles me. Any advice would be vastly appreciated.
And if Linux just doesn't like Asus mobos, or the Cable ports they come with, would you recomend me replacing my mobo, or getting a new thing to plug my Cable into.

BTW, I'm gonna try using the drivers in SuSE. I'll respond if it works, and if not, I'll wait for your sagely advice.

how are you connected to the internet ? is your network card / cable modem supported by suse.

I checked that, and there is no entry for it. There is one for my Mobo, but not the Network adapter. It doesnt say it either way, so should I shell out the 20 bucks for a new one, or keep trying new solutions?

what network adapter do you have. have you tried looking about for drivers for it ?

you need to give us some more info, are you trying to use DHCP? Can you ping your router? If you set a static IP, can you ping your router.. etc etc
